Why

FX required a teaser to introduce the Double Feature season of American Horror Story, centred on an alien narrative.

The film needed to establish tone quickly. It had to feel unsettling and otherworldly, while remaining grounded enough to be believable. The aim was to build tension through contrast rather than explicit storytelling.

How

We built the film around an alien graveyard in the desert. Slow, cinematic shots show sand shifting and eroding to reveal skeletal remains that feel almost human, but with subtle differences in form.

These moments are repeatedly interrupted by abrupt, glitch-like cuts. Skulls distort, disintegrate and open as if mid-scream, breaking the calm and introducing a sense of instability.

The sequence is structured around this shift in pace, with sound design by Human Robot Soul reinforcing the tension between stillness and disruption.

Outcome

The teaser introduces the season through atmosphere, using contrast to build unease.

By grounding the visuals in a familiar environment before disrupting them, the film creates a clear sense of tension that holds across broadcast and social formats.
