SEATTLE SOUNDERSSEATTLE SOUNDERS
A launch film for Seattle Sounders FC’s rebrand, using abstract, water-led visuals inspired by the Pacific Northwest to reflect the identity of the club and its connection to the city.

Column Studio required a film to introduce the Seattle Sounders rebrand in a way that felt connected to both the club and the city.
The aim was to create something emotive without relying on familiar sports visuals. The film needed to reflect the team’s identity, its history and its relationship with Seattle, while avoiding a purely literal approach.

We built the film around the idea of water as a defining element. Guided by the phrase “at the water’s edge”, the visuals move between abstract forms and recognisable details, creating a sense of flow throughout the sequence.
The pacing draws on this idea, shifting between calm and movement in a rhythm that mirrors the tide. This allowed the film to build emotion gradually, rather than relying on overt moments.
The approach avoids direct representation, instead using texture, motion and atmosphere to suggest the character of the city and the club.

The film introduces the rebrand through tone and atmosphere rather than explicit narrative.
By focusing on a single visual idea, the work creates a consistent thread that connects the club, the city and the identity, resulting in a film that feels specific without being literal.
